fluid-work IRC Logs-2011-06-21

[03:38:11 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> hey folks
[03:38:22 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> I've got a stupid question
[03:38:39 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> well it's not stupid for me but I think the answer will be quick
[03:39:08 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> on the videoPlayer
[03:39:20 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> I've got a subcomponent for the controllers
[03:39:29 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> and I'm working on a simili fullscreen
[03:39:59 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> so that subcomponent is supposed to change propreties of the main container
[03:40:09 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> do you know how I can easily access it
[03:40:14 CDT(-0500)] <lahabana> in a clean way?
[08:43:48 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jhung: you have two user accts on teh wiki – can i kill the utoronto one?
[08:44:20 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> sure
[08:59:34 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> jameswy: ping
[09:00:02 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> jhung: Yeppers.
[09:00:21 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> got a sec to take a look at Uploader via Skype screen share?
[09:02:18 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> jhung: Kinda not unfortunately... I'm on cellular data today, :S. Bell has failed me.
[09:02:49 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> jameswy: yikes. Okay. I'll send you a screen cap then and we can talk about it.
[09:02:56 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> jhung: Awesome, thanks!
[09:06:21 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> heidi, jhung: I'm looking for a branch (any branch) that uses the yellow icons in the UIO dialog (i.e. when the yellow-on-black theme is selected). Is this implemented anywhere successfully, and if so, where?
[09:06:58 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: check my FLUID-4230 branch
[09:07:17 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, I just did, and it's not working for me
[09:07:34 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> it's still using the grey-black icons
[09:07:38 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> Justin_o: do you think this JIRA should remain open because of the possible refactoring of preview? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-3761
[09:07:39 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> on a black background
[09:07:49 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think I'd rather close it but you were the last to comment on it
[09:07:51 CDT(-0500)] * jhung scratches head
[09:08:44 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac i'm still fixing up my branch to work with jon's work, but hoping to be done before lunch
[09:08:52 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung i think yours should work tho?
[09:09:14 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, is it possible you haven't committed or pushed something?
[09:09:32 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> ansatasiac: nope. I did a clean checkout of it yesterday and it was all there.
[09:09:45 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> Justin_o: Is there any issues you want me to look at? Should I start a pull request for 4209?
[09:09:57 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> I just cloned your repo yesterday afternoon. Not working for me
[09:10:07 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> harriswong: sure for the pull request.. 1 second for the other part
[09:10:19 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac i think his branch name is FLUID-4230-jhung - that one ?
[09:10:24 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: did you get mine working? Funny how this issue appears to be happening again...
[09:10:38 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> yes, that's the one. Let me double-check. I still manage to mess git things up...
[09:10:41 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung i'm having to redo some stuff, but almost there
[09:11:45 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: okay. Anastasiac, none of the UIO are working or just the fatpanel?
[09:12:12 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, none, but I'm checking if it's a git mistake I've made. give me a minute
[09:13:11 CDT(-0500)] * jhung checking my local repo again
[09:16:19 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, heidi, sorry for the worry. It was my mistake.
[09:16:31 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> ok cool np
[09:16:34 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: cool.
[09:17:13 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: has any more work been done on this JIRA after the merge branch was put into the project repo? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-3782
[09:17:24 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled no
[09:17:48 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> oh, I just realized it's a parent JIRA - I guess I can't close it until the children are done
[09:18:42 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> harriswong: while you're waiting to chat with colinclark about the uploader stuff.. you can start testing out his branch
[09:19:00 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> just double check that it is up-to-date with master first though
[09:20:09 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> Justin_o: k. i think i am gonna hold off from the pull request for 4209. I just recall that the unit tests aren't passing
[09:20:28 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> harriswong: oh right.. of course (smile)
[09:20:49 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> Justin_o: i will move on to the uploader
[09:23:04 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> heidi, I've encountered an issue with the widget icons. The css files use background images with paths relative to the css file location, but an integrator will not have the same paths, so switching to one of the fss themes won't have the right paths to the icons. Any thoughts?
[09:23:55 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac if the integrator moves the /images dir relative to the css files, then yes they will need to change the paths, or provide their own css that over-rides these styles. i think that's standard
[09:24:12 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> harriswong: if bosmon hasn't shown up by this afternoon, we should send out an e-mail to the list about FLUID-4209
[09:24:24 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> k
[09:24:24 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac are you talking about UIO or themes in general?
[09:24:37 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> heidi, I'm talking themes in general, NOT the UIO dialog
[09:24:47 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> the fss widgets use icons
[09:25:56 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac same thing i think - if the images dir is moved relative to the css, they will have to fix their paths yes
[09:26:02 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: was anything more done on http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4217 after the merge branch was put into the project repo?
[09:26:16 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled no
[09:26:58 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> heidi, the images dir has not moved, but the html is not where the css is, so the paths are wrong
[09:28:04 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> I guess the only solution is that an integrator must override anything in an fss theme that involves paths, heidi
[09:28:11 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> anastasiac think the integrator has to move the /images dir to be relative to the html then
[09:28:20 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> or that, yes
[09:29:03 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> ok, heidi, thanks for helping me work this through
[09:29:11 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> np
[09:35:47 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> cindyli: is there more work to be done for this JIRA? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4208
[09:36:29 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> anastasiac: is there more work to be done for this JIRA? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4203
[09:37:34 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> michelled, that depends (smile) The page is created, it's there, so no. However, as I'm implementing the yellow/black themes, I do improve upon the page a bit, so does that count? I'd say no, but I'll defer to you if you disagree
[09:37:51 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> anastasiac: I think no
[09:37:58 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> ok, I'll resolve it, then
[09:38:03 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> thx
[09:38:07 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> michelled:
[09:38:24 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> sorry, hit enter by accident (smile)
[09:38:55 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> i think more tests should be writtten on templateLoader, michelled. but i'm thinking of extending the templateLoader more to include toc template
[09:39:13 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> cindyli: that sounds like a good idea
[09:39:23 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> so, we can close this one and create a new jira for the extension of templateLoader and its unit tests
[09:39:28 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> cindyli: I think I'll close that JIRA and writing more tests can be under a new JIRA
[09:39:38 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> oh, ya, what you said cindyli (smile)
[09:39:39 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> yes
[09:39:45 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> (smile)
[09:40:14 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> that's the next thing i will be doing once i'm done with toc issue in ui options
[09:58:30 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, I've found a problem with one of your yellow widget icons: it's flipped horizonally
[09:58:50 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> which one?
[09:59:03 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> buttons-med-pg.png - the closed end should be on the right, not the left
[09:59:23 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: ok, I'll put a new version up in a sec...
[09:59:29 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> thanks, jhung
[10:00:24 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> and jhung, you're working on two other versions of those icons too, right? black and white (for hc and hci) (well, the black would be for black-on-yellow, too)
[10:01:28 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: I think I already did those and attached them somewhere. Let me find them...
[10:01:40 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> oh, sorry - I must have missed that
[10:01:55 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> but I'd have to make new buttons-med-bg for them all if they're reversed.
[10:02:04 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> I thought that was for 4287, jhung
[10:02:40 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Here's the list of what's new in Firefox 5: http://hacks.mozilla.org/2011/06/firefox5/
[10:03:52 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: reversed as in horizontally reversed, not reversed as in colour. (smile)
[10:04:11 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> right: the "closed" end should be on the right
[10:05:22 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: let me make a new batch of icons for you. I just noticed that button icons were 1px off. I can attach all the contrast theme widgets to a single Jira. Which one would you prefer? (we should probably delete any old ones lingering around).
[10:05:58 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, 4218 would be fine
[10:05:59 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> thanks
[10:10:31 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> hey jhung when you have a sec, i'm stuck on a css thang
[10:10:43 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: k, gimme a sec.
[10:15:09 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi, what's up?
[10:16:15 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung for this file https://github.com/jhung/infusion/blob/FLUID-4230-jhung/src/webapp/components/uiOptions/css/FatPanelUIOptions.css
[10:16:17 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> line 164
[10:16:31 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> if i put .fl-uiOptions-fatPanel in front it doesn't work. i can't figure out why!
[10:17:02 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: let me see...
[10:20:31 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: it works for me. I see it applies, but the padding gets overridden. Float and text-decoration are intact.
[10:21:57 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung hmm, ok
[10:22:05 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> thanks
[10:22:18 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> np.
[10:25:18 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> jameswy: is this JIRA still relevant? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-3975
[10:25:55 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> cindyli: when you are working on the toc URL I think you can use this JIRA: http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-3742
[10:26:15 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled: Good question. jhung, heidi: does the UIO panel close on ESC?
[10:26:24 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> sure, michelled
[10:26:38 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> jameswy: I don't think it does - what I'm wondering is whether it should
[10:27:06 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy no it doesn't
[10:27:06 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled: Yes, I think it should.
[10:28:15 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> jameswy: ESC is used by screen readers to stop readback. Would it be confusing if ESC also closes the panel?
[10:28:45 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i would not expect esc to control the fat panel ... is that standard somewhere?
[10:28:53 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i would expect the same key to open and close it, if anything
[10:29:39 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> cindyli: is this the JIRA you are currently working on?
[10:29:41 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4284
[10:30:14 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> michelled: it's a duplication of FLUID-4295
[10:30:24 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> michelled: yes, working on 4295
[10:30:28 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung if you put fl-uiOptions-fatPanel in front of .ui-tabs .ui-tabs-hide do the tabs still work for you?
[10:30:36 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> jhung, heidi: feel free to disagree with me on this one (I'm on the fence), but I think global panels and any focused dialogues generally should be closeable via esc.
[10:30:48 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> thx cindyli - I'll link them
[10:30:58 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> sure, thx, michelled
[10:31:03 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy i feel like that's the case for dialogs... but toggles?
[10:31:52 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy: It seems reasonable to me to close it with a keyboard shortcut, and I think it's an issue that some screen readers will override the shortcut for something else
[10:31:58 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> they override every shortcut (smile)
[10:32:05 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I think it'll still be useful to lots of people
[10:33:03 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Let's leave the issue open for now, and discuss whether 'esc' is most appropriate.
[10:34:08 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: yes. It works.
[10:34:38 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung bizarro... i wonder what's up with my stuff...
[10:34:41 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> thanks again
[10:48:20 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> ho
[10:48:21 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> hi
[10:50:01 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: do you have any time today to meet with me and huslage ?
[10:50:15 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jessm colinclark just went to grab lunch i think
[10:50:43 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> Justin_o: thanks king, we'll catch him after
[10:50:53 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> ah ok
[10:50:58 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> i should do that too then
[10:51:03 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> FYI: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/
[10:51:04 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> drool
[10:51:14 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> huslage: i was drooling over that his morning (smile)
[10:51:22 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> must
[10:51:24 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> retain
[10:51:26 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> wallet
[10:51:41 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> lol
[10:52:02 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> i have had it open in the mac app store all day...
[10:52:15 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> RESIST
[10:52:18 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> RESIST!!!
[10:52:20 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> hehe
[10:57:11 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> ooh, Justin_o, is it out?
[10:57:29 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I guess I'll get my credit card out of my wallet now (sad)
[11:00:44 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> This could only be referring to some kind of Apple product (tongue)
[11:01:05 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: yes.. of course (smile)
[11:01:19 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/
[11:03:32 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung i figured out the issue. tabs component has changed to put the styles on the container vs a particular element, so fl-uiOptions-fatPanel is now on the same element as ui-tabs
[11:03:43 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> so the hierarchy has changed
[11:04:29 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung_afk fyi ^
[11:38:09 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: ah. Good to know (re: hierarchy).
[11:38:22 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung yeah finally a sane reason why everything broke (tongue)
[11:55:50 CDT(-0500)] <athena> hey folks - what's the timeline on the 1.4 release?
[11:57:28 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> athena: last i heard from Justin_o we were going to freeze friday + 2 weeks of testing
[11:57:38 CDT(-0500)] <athena> thanks jessm!
[11:57:50 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jessm: yes.. that's the plan.. we haven't set any specific dates yet, but we're aiming for that
[11:57:53 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> athena: Justin_o is the final word on these things though
[11:58:13 CDT(-0500)] <athena> sounds like maybe it'd be a good idea for me to pull a cut of the frozen codebase into uportal?
[11:58:23 CDT(-0500)] <athena> i know a bunch has changed since the last snapshot we pulled
[11:58:28 CDT(-0500)] <athena> and maybe we can help out a bit with testing
[11:58:35 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> athena: that would be great (smile)
[11:58:39 CDT(-0500)] <athena> cool (smile)
[11:58:44 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> colinclark: you back yet?
[11:59:04 CDT(-0500)] <athena> looking forward to getting back to playing with the IoC stuff - i lost a hard drive and have been scrambling to catch up since (tongue)
[11:59:06 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> cindyli: is the default settingstore the cookie store?
[12:00:35 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> athena: ouch.. HDD failure? hope you didn't lose much data.
[12:01:03 CDT(-0500)] <athena> yeah - two days before i left for the sakai conference, with a bunch of uncommitted umobile code i needed to deploy before leaving (tongue)
[12:01:07 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> huslage: I'm back, but in a call
[12:01:09 CDT(-0500)] <athena> i uhhhh have a backup cron job now
[12:01:10 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> won't be too long
[12:01:13 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> do you want to chat today?
[12:01:21 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> yeah with jessm too
[12:01:44 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> cool
[12:01:47 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> how about 3pm?
[12:02:48 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> k
[12:02:52 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: huslage works for me
[12:03:33 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> athena: that hurts.. i've found with git and github now i've been able to keep in progress code tracked much better, and stored remotely.
[12:03:52 CDT(-0500)] <athena> yeah, svn/dropbox/etc. definitely helps a lot
[12:04:02 CDT(-0500)] <athena> i'd waited all week to check in code because i kept getting interrupted
[12:04:17 CDT(-0500)] <athena> literally sat down to organize and check in when the laptop crashed (tongue)
[12:04:19 CDT(-0500)] <athena> ohwell.
[12:04:28 CDT(-0500)] <athena> least i live in a city with a bunch of apple stores now!
[12:04:37 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> (smile) that helps
[12:05:41 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> whenever i have problems with my machine jameswy tries to convince me to by the latest Mac
[12:07:30 CDT(-0500)] * athena <3s her mac, even if it's an evil beast that's had two dead hds within 6 mo
[12:07:46 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> get the latest mac already Justin_o
[12:07:49 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> it's obviously too old
[12:08:45 CDT(-0500)] <athena> my next machine is so going to have an SSD
[12:09:22 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> i want final cut x so bad
[12:09:26 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> colinclark: Is there a reason the "Show Files" "Hide Files" toggle is a button and not a link for the error messages?
[12:09:43 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jhung: That's a question for harriswong
[12:09:57 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> ^harriswong?
[12:13:57 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy, michelled, and Bosmon4: I'm wondering if you guys have some time next Monday to chat about demos for the GPII and Floe 0.1
[12:14:03 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> There's a convergence of stuff...
[12:14:10 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> The upcoming GPII technical advisory board meeting in July
[12:14:22 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> the "Obama demos" on the horizon in late July
[12:14:36 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> and our start on Floe 0.1 once this Infusion release is out the door
[12:14:40 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jessm: You might enjoy attending, too
[12:14:45 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> colinclark: Yep, would love to.
[12:14:57 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> works for me colinclark
[12:15:12 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> jhung: good question. It has been so many months and I don't remember why it's now a button. Refreshing my memory... I coded it as a link before and there was a reason why it's a button now.
[12:15:20 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: count me in
[12:15:26 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> anastasiac: new icons attached to http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4218
[12:15:26 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: eek, monday i'm out
[12:15:38 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> July 4th
[12:15:41 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> no
[12:15:41 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jhung, excellent, thanks
[12:15:42 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> wait
[12:15:44 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> huslage: i think i just make the minimum requirements for Final Cut Pro X
[12:15:45 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> my calendar is all wrong
[12:15:48 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I'm fast-forwarding
[12:15:50 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> jhung: is there a reason why it should not be a button?
[12:15:56 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> June 27
[12:15:58 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> much better (smile)
[12:16:00 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> i'm well within them Justin_o . ARGH
[12:16:05 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> you'll be getting a new one soon
[12:16:15 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> athena: you should talk to jameswy about how super fast his new MBP is with the SSD
[12:16:26 CDT(-0500)] <athena> i knoooooow
[12:16:28 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> huslage: (smile) i'm pretty excited about that
[12:16:30 CDT(-0500)] <athena> have a coworker with one
[12:16:34 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> hehe
[12:16:41 CDT(-0500)] <athena> plus i bet it doesn't tip over and delete all his data every few months
[12:16:48 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jessm: We could try for this Thursday instead, if it's better for you
[12:16:52 CDT(-0500)] <athena> but i didn't want to pay for the amount of space i use
[12:17:09 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: that would work, but whatever works for others. i can certainly catch up on tues.
[12:17:12 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> <3 SSDs, <3 Macs.
[12:17:17 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> harriswong: there's an odd styling issue where the text on the botton is 3 pixels off, and the background colour isn't inheriting the parent's colour properly (it appears slightly darker).
[12:17:26 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy: (tongue)
[12:17:34 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> harriswong: changing it to a link would fix it, but I'm wondering if there's a reason why we shouldn't.
[12:20:18 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> harriswong: I guess semantically it makes more sense to have a button.
[12:20:32 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy, michelled: Does this Thursday work for you guys?
[12:20:36 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> as an alternative
[12:20:44 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> colinclark: Yep.
[12:20:59 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> what time colinclark?
[12:21:02 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> jhung: or it could have been something to do with IEs.
[12:21:08 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> michelled: Trying to figure that out
[12:21:16 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I see that there's an Image Editor meeting in the aft
[12:21:35 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I also have a cspace meeting either at 11 or 12:30
[12:21:39 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> ok
[12:26:55 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> jhung: or it was because i got a comment on i am not supposed to use anchors to trigger a hide/show.
[12:41:41 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy fat panel: should there be hover styling on the non-active tabs? right now there isn't on the default theme, but hover for the other themes
[12:46:22 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: am I right in saying that turning off background images has been removed from UIO for now?
[12:46:37 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled yep
[12:46:52 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> do you know if there are plans to bring it back?
[12:46:56 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i think jameswy thought that would be something the theme would do ??
[12:47:11 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i'm not sure... it fit in somewhere
[12:47:26 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> there's an old JIRA which I think no longer makes sense: http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-2350
[12:47:29 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> what do you think?
[12:48:36 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled looks like this jira is saying instead of wiping out all bg images, we let the implementer define what is a superfluous image and what isn't... background or otherwise
[12:49:22 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> right, and that we could provide an enhanced graphics setting
[12:49:38 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> but it seems like we don't plan on providing that anymore
[12:49:39 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think I
[12:49:41 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> yeah they would flag unnecessary images with this class
[12:49:54 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think I'll assign the JIRA to James and let him decide
[12:49:55 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled yet not sure exactly. be good to ask james
[12:49:59 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> good call
[12:53:43 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> heidi: I saw a message from you blip on the screen until my connection farted--could you repaste what you wrote?
[12:54:07 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy is bell on the case yet?
[12:54:19 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy i asked: fat panel: should there be hover styling on the non-active tabs? right now there isn't on the default theme, but hover for the other themes
[12:54:53 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> heidi: Bell's being very frustrating. Basically, they broke my connection and don't know how to fix it, (tongue) – they said "give us 48 hours".
[12:55:02 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> 48!
[12:55:52 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Ah, yes. It's not necessary, but if you could put one in, that'd be fantastic. Say, a light-coloured grey. Something around #d0d0d0 or so.
[12:55:53 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> we lost internet for 2 days on the weekend, but that was because my husband got a little TOO into demo'ing the room we're reno'ing
[12:56:13 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> jameswy: I assigned a JIRA to you about the background images toggle - not sure if you want it closed or moved to another release
[12:56:20 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy okay will do
[12:56:47 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> harriswong: are these tests still failing? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4223
[12:58:23 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> heidi: I know! And you know how they broke it? They randomly and "accidentally" put in a new internet order for my unit, effectively cancelling my existing internet. And now they're trying to figure out how to bring my original service back online.
[12:59:15 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> colinclark: did this get into the project repo yet? http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4238
[12:59:26 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> hmm
[12:59:32 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> well, it may have regressed
[12:59:34 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> gimme a sec
[12:59:36 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy that's ridiculous! hopefully they fix you up soon
[13:01:13 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled: I haven't heard about this JIRA before. Could you elaborate on what this "enhanced graphics" toggle would do?
[13:01:14 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> michelled: they seem to pass on build site now.
[13:02:20 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> My interpretation is this: when we use a high-contrast theme, we cut out all background images; toggling enhanced graphics would turn those images back on, if theme-appropriate images exist?
[13:02:39 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jameswy earlier i thought: looks like this jira is saying instead of wiping out all bg images, we let the implementer define what is a superfluous image and what isn't... background or otherwise
[13:03:04 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> by putting a class on unnecessary images that enhancer could then turn on/off
[13:03:13 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled, is heidi 's interpretation correct? ^
[13:03:21 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> so we were just wondering what the future of bg images is in UI Options
[13:03:26 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> since removing the on/off
[13:03:41 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> and if this class jacob suggests would be useful
[13:03:51 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think the idea was to flip between the enhanced and simplified classes
[13:04:27 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> so I think the implementor would put the enhanced class onto things which could be simplified
[13:05:02 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> but I guess this isn't specified in a way that any of us really understands right now
[13:05:13 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> What are "enhanced" and "simplified" classes? Are those for the "simplify layout" option?
[13:05:56 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think these are talking about images
[13:06:45 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: do you know if the enhanced or simplified classes exist in FSS now?
[13:07:53 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled no they don't
[13:07:57 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i don't think
[13:08:00 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> harriswong: thanks for checking - were you able to try IE6 XP, IE 8 and 9 on Win 7?
[13:08:19 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> I tried Ie 8 and 9 on Win 7, not ie6
[13:08:24 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> michelled^
[13:08:38 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> harriswong: could you check IE 6 please?
[13:08:59 CDT(-0500)] <harriswong> fluid-everyone: anyone has a IE6 that i can borrow?
[13:09:15 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled, heidi:I think the future of background and all other non-content images (e.g., icons, buttons, etc.) is that whenever appropriate theme-based alternate images exist, we use them. When they don't, we default to no images.
[13:10:06 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: is that the way the themes work now?
[13:10:32 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> michelled jameswy i don't think the themes wipe out bg images now no
[13:11:05 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> so does that mean we need a JIRA for that jameswy?
[13:12:16 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled, heidi: Yep.
[13:12:39 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> Justin_o: that means another one for bug parade - is that ok?
[13:13:09 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> jameswy, heidi: I'm going to close 2350
[13:13:23 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled: I can write up the new JIRA if you're not alrady.
[13:13:33 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> thanks jameswy - that would be great
[13:13:46 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled: Sounds good--I think the new JIRA will supercede it.
[13:14:27 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> michelled: it's just to add images to the themes?
[13:14:44 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> actually to remove them from the themes (smile)
[13:15:03 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> well, when a theme is selected
[13:18:43 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> michelled, heidi, Justin_o: the issue we're talking about has been created here: http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4298
[13:20:37 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jameswy, heidi, michelled: I've added it to the bug parade
[13:21:04 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> Justin_o this is a 1.4 thing?
[13:22:32 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> i had assumed jameswy wanted it done for 1.4
[13:22:43 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> is that not correct?
[13:23:12 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Whenever possible, Justin_o, heidi, (smile)
[13:23:47 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> okay.. well it's there if you can get to it
[13:23:48 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> i think it can wait, michelled what do you think?
[13:24:01 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> I don't know that it's a blocker, but I've put it as critical.
[13:27:24 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: I guess by not getting to it we are losing functionality from 1.3
[13:27:36 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> k
[13:27:45 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> heidi: it might be ok since UIO has changed in such a major way
[13:27:54 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I think critical is probably a good priority
[13:28:02 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> we've lost the explicit turn bg imgs off regardless ya
[13:36:58 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy: Got a quick sec?
[13:37:15 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> colinclark: Yep, what's up?
[13:37:33 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I was just reflecting while I was flipping around on a few pages while also on a call
[13:37:43 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> (don't tell jessm)
[13:37:52 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I find this quite interesting...
[13:37:52 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/compressor/
[13:37:55 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> (smile)
[13:37:58 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> It's an interesting interaction
[13:38:04 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> i was chatting at colinclark, don't tell him
[13:38:04 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Where the page is structured as a big, long page
[13:38:11 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> lol
[13:38:20 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> but there is this "section widget" on the left
[13:38:26 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> as you scroll, it updates itself
[13:38:30 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> or of course you can click and jump
[13:39:10 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I also find the gallery on this page sort of curious...
[13:39:29 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> it's like a weird perversion of the lightbox perversion: http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/motion/
[13:39:38 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> If I can put it in such an opinionated way (wink)
[13:39:42 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Mm, very nice. My only beef with it is the menu itself--sometimes it's there and appears static, other times it's not there at all.
[13:39:57 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy: yes, there are a few rough edges there
[13:40:04 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> The gallery is an "overlay"
[13:40:17 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> except that it's evolved back out of the overlay look and feel
[13:40:31 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> so the metaphor of the lightbox-style overlay image navigation is gone
[13:40:44 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> but all of the trappings of the interaction are still in lace
[13:40:45 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> place
[13:40:54 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> it's awfully odd
[13:41:05 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Interesting...
[13:41:07 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> It almost looks as if it's going back to a page-by-page style of navigation
[13:41:13 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> but it doesn't quite work that way
[13:41:40 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> michelled: How about 1 or 2 pm on Thursday?
[13:41:59 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> Nice handling of browser window resizing too, on their non-lightbox lightbox
[13:42:19 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy: that's quite remarkable
[13:43:14 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> michelled: 2 pm works better for Bosmon4, I hear
[13:43:16 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> colinclark: Yep. I was just skimming an article about it a few days ago: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fluid-images/
[13:43:54 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> 2 pm is fine colinclark as long as it isn't more then an hour
[13:44:02 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> (tongue)
[13:44:07 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I'll do my best to stay on topic
[13:44:16 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jameswy, jessm: Does that work for you?
[13:44:29 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> 2PM works for me.
[13:45:14 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: any chance we can do a.m.? i suck
[13:45:25 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Bosmon4, I think, can't do a.m.
[13:45:34 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> except on Monday
[13:45:53 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: 3:30?
[13:45:59 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I guess we could try to split it up into two meetings
[13:46:06 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> sorry y'all
[13:46:07 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> michelled and jameswy have a meeting with pulkit then
[13:46:11 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> than
[13:47:02 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> i can do 4p
[13:47:11 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> michelled: jameswy colinclark ? ^
[13:47:43 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> 4 works for me
[13:47:44 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> I can do 4P.
[13:47:56 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> 4pm is ok too
[13:48:04 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> me too
[13:48:06 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> yay!
[13:48:10 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> book it danno
[13:48:49 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Done. It's in the Fluid team calendar
[13:48:54 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> queue theme music
[13:48:56 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> er cue
[13:49:00 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> I am drunk, it is my excuse
[13:49:03 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> lol
[13:49:06 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Just came back from a trip to THER PUBBB
[13:49:29 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> (smile)
[13:50:42 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: guess that means it's not a good time to ask for help (smile)
[13:52:17 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> dunking it
[13:52:25 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> drinking it
[13:52:54 CDT(-0500)] <huslage> they have added autocorrect to MacOS 10.7. it's more annoying. I KNOW WHAT I WANT TO TYPE APPLE, KTHX
[14:01:25 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> huslage: colinclark skyping y'all
[14:31:22 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> I don't want to jinx it, but I have something that fixes FLUID-962 (long filenames not wrapping in uploader file queue). (tongue)
[14:31:45 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> sweet
[14:31:52 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> I'm going to create a branch and push it out. Someone can take a look at it.
[14:38:03 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Facebook is starting to lose users in UK
[14:38:05 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Yay!!
[14:38:24 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> And lost 5 million US users last month
[14:53:57 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> yura_, Bosmon4: do you know how to create invokers in a component that isn't autoInit
[14:54:25 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> well you can still have them in defaults
[14:54:41 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> Justin_o: ^, just make sure you call fluid.initDependents(that);
[14:54:57 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> oh (sad) i can't call initDependents
[14:55:32 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> then no (smile) , i was asking Bosmon4 at some point to if we could have initInvokers or something , not sure if there's a specific reason to not have it
[14:55:47 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> yura_: okay thanks
[14:57:46 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Justin_o - how could it be that you can't call initDependents?
[15:00:58 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> yura_ - the development of the framework is meant to take in FEWER lifecycle points, not more of them (smile)
[15:03:06 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> (smile)
[15:03:19 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: hello
[15:03:33 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> I'm trying to figure out how to pass along the settingsStore across the chasm
[15:03:46 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Hi Justin - if you need more lifecycle points or can't call initDependents, it is a sure sign that your component design is broken
[15:04:00 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: i'm pretty sure this one is (smile)
[15:04:24 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Justin_o - you should pass it along in an initial "care package" on startup, put it into a supercomponent, and then after that inject it into a subcomponent
[15:05:28 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: at the moment it is a the subcomponent of a child component of the uiOptionsBridge... so i would have to some how get it from this location and pass it along through the bridge
[15:05:33 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> i'm sort of stuck on this
[15:06:22 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Justin_o - you should move it so it is constructed earlier, at the top of the tree
[15:06:29 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Why does it need to be a child of the bridge?
[15:06:48 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: the one that is on the outer page is created before the bridge
[15:07:12 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> but for it to be used by uiOptions in the iframe, it will have to be transported through/over the bridge
[15:07:28 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Justin_o - that's fine, you can just inject it, right?
[15:07:36 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> When you say "the one"
[15:07:41 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Can't there just be JUST one?
[15:08:49 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: i'm attempting to consolidate them.. there will need to be two different uiEnhancers.. so that the updating can happen independently .. but the saving could be in one place... so i'm trying to override the iframe uiEnhancer's settingsstore with the one that is created on the parent page
[15:09:28 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> Yes, that should be fine
[15:09:36 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon4> I mean, the design with 2 enhancers and one store
[15:09:55 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon4: thanks.. i'm just puzzling how to actually implement it now (smile)
[15:11:42 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> jhung fat panel all cleaned up at my FLUID-4230
[15:11:56 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> heidi: awesome!!
[15:12:02 CDT(-0500)] <heidi> going to go through and clean up css a bit more then send a pull for all the layout work - wew!
