The Project

Funder: Ontario Trillium Foundation

Project Website: https://workinculture.ca/

Duration: June 8, 2022 to April 30, 2023

Goals

Collaboratively design a new version of the WorkInCulture job board and web site with a community-led co-design approach so it can be implemented by the system builder.

Co-Design

Who should be involved? Who are the people who will be impacted by the design of the job board and the website?

  1. WIC community of jobseekers
  2. People who want to, but never used WIC’s job board
  3. Employers - those who post jobs to the board
  4. Administrators - those who are responsible for maintaining the website and content
  5. WIC funders
  6. System builder - Surface Impression

Also see: WIC Co-design Planning

Tasks

  • identify needs and priorities for the new site, and to examine supports that may enable greater impact and benefit for marginalized groups, including the gathering of metrics and data that will support more inclusive hiring practices.
  • Lead two co-design workshops to engage the community in helping to design and refine the website and the job board
  • Synthesize and summarize the results of the co-design workshops
  • Design user flows, user interface wireframes, and other specifications useful for the development of the site
  • Create visual and/or interactive mock-ups of the user interface
  • Solicit feedback on the designs and platform through participatory design ‘crits’ and feedback sessions

Deliverables

The IDRC at OCAD U will provide WorkInCulture with:

  1. A synthesis of the results from the co-design workshops after the completion of codesign.
  2. Medium-fidelity user interface mock-ups that a web development firm can use to implement the final design.
