fluid-work IRC Logs-2012-10-03

[09:13:57 CDT(-0500)] <alexn1> colinclark: ayt?

[09:15:24 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> michelled, your 4701 video player pull request uses the code in your 4701 captionator pull request, right?

[09:16:09 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> yep

[09:16:57 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> k

[09:31:25 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> fluid-everyone: there will be no community meeting today

[09:56:33 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> justin_o, and cindyli I'm about to start doing markup and come into a naming issue. We call the PDF exporter "exporter". What should we call the component that does capturing? "Capturer" is awkward. (tongue)

[09:57:37 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jhung: i guess it's fine… let me see if i can find anything else

[09:58:22 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jhung: we could call it captor

[09:58:47 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jhung: but capturer is a real word http://www.thefreedictionary.com/capturer

[09:59:23 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> thanks justin_o, makes me feel a little better. (smile) We'll go with capturer for now.

[10:00:11 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> jhung: oka

[10:00:13 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> y

[10:48:15 CDT(-0500)] <alexn1> colinclark: ayt?

[11:03:26 CDT(-0500)] <boyan1> Bosmon, colinclark, yura: architecture meeting in Connect?

[11:03:33 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> boyan1: Yep, sorry

[11:03:37 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> be there in a sec

[11:03:42 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> just finishing a meeting

[11:06:21 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> kasper: We were going to use gotomeeting?

[11:06:43 CDT(-0500)] <kasper> colinclark: forgot everything about it and dont have the credentials here

[11:06:55 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> ok

[11:07:03 CDT(-0500)] <kasper> we can do skype though

[11:09:42 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon> hi

[11:15:50 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon> Are we skyping?

[11:19:21 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> anastasiac: had you wanted to check in?

[12:28:43 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> cindyli: is there a way to manually test Capture? Specifically I'm looking for an HTML file.

[13:59:24 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: ping

[13:59:38 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm: pong

[13:59:47 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: so this new project needs wiki space

[13:59:52 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> and i need to carve out a spot

[14:00:05 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> tell me a bit more about the project, jessm

[14:00:12 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> the question as I see it is, do i make it a project within Flluid's wiki or do i do it at the root level?

[14:00:30 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: it's the Dept. of Ed grant that overlaps with Cloud4all and also Floe 3

[14:00:41 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> profile creation support for cloud-based a11y

[14:01:48 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, it sounds only loosely related to fluid (from the very little you've said)

[14:02:49 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> i dunno about that

[14:02:56 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> where floe3 is fluid, this is connected

[14:02:58 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> meaningfully

[14:03:14 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, it would be very easy to create a separated wiki space using the fluid confluence instance, under the fluid wiki domain but separate, like the ISO 24751 space: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/ISO24751/AccessForAll+Working+Group

[14:03:29 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> it's under wiki.fluidproject.org, but the wiki spaces are separate

[14:03:44 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: i suspect that's the way we should go

[14:04:25 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> obviously, there would be links between the wiki spaces, easily enough

[14:06:11 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: cool

[14:06:12 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, is this something you'd like me to set up?

[14:06:22 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: how easy is it to change the space name if needed?

[14:06:28 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> the project name hasn't been agreed upon yet

[14:06:36 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> let me check

[14:11:26 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, changing the space key is not something that's supported. It could be done with shenanigans like modifying the internals of a dump, then recreating the space using the dump, or creating a new space with the new key and moving the pages over, but they're probably not good ideas

[14:11:39 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: sounds yucky

[14:11:43 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: how about this...

[14:11:55 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> what if i set up a few pages in the fluid wiki and then move it to a unique space?

[14:12:00 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> is that painful?

[14:12:59 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, if the few pages are all children of a single parent page, then it should be pretty easy to move them (move the parent and check the "move children" box) so long as there are no funky privacy issues on any of the child pages, which I wouldn't expect

[14:13:56 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: so, creating a parent on fluid wiki then… top level page – that's all?

[14:14:28 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> yep: create a page for the new project, and create any other pages for the project as descendants of that first page

[14:38:46 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> peeps: spread among your networks: http://fluidproject.org/news/43/123/We-are-looking-for-a-Senior-Designer/

[15:23:20 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> colinclark: I've got a fix for the error that gets thrown when you click on the scrub bar in the video player but I can't think of a way to write a test that isn't extremely brittle

[15:23:29 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> here's the fix: https://github.com/michelled/videoPlayer/compare/fluid-project:demo...FLUID-4797

[15:25:31 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> the problem is that model.buffered is set by the time update event in the browser and if that event has not fired then of course we can't expect buffered to exist.

[15:26:28 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> this is obviously delving into browser implementation details - meaning we aren't likely to see the same error in different browsers

[15:26:49 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> also, a browser update might change the implementation and then we would no longer see the error

[15:27:14 CDT(-0500)] <michelled> I feel like I should make the pull request as is, but maybe I'm missing something

[15:42:15 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> colinclark: https://github.com/TheAlphaNerd/node-osc-kontrol

[15:42:23 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> totally gross and hacky

[15:48:37 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> hey thealphanerd !

[15:48:52 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> sorry, i'm super distracted with a conference call

[15:48:53 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> but i'll take a look

[15:48:58 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> no worries

[15:49:00 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> we'll talk soon

[15:49:10 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> I have some ideas I'd like to implement for ui components

[15:49:16 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> to be done in fluid

[15:49:23 CDT(-0500)] <thealphanerd> we'll talk soon (big grin)
