fluid-work IRC Logs-2010-09-07

[09:16:29 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> hi kasper, just to double check, we are still allowed to commit against blockers for 1.0alpha e.g. http://issues.collectionspace.org/browse/CSPACE-2788
[09:18:03 CDT(-0500)] <yura_> sorry wrong channel
[09:52:43 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> anastasiac: This is awfully broad, but it will at least serve as a starting point for tracking these "proto-tutorials" I've got. http://issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-3714
[09:53:09 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> colinclark, thanks!
[10:57:25 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jhung: can you post the url to the research page you're populating in the wiki?
[10:57:28 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> i lost it
[10:58:23 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> jessm: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Universal+Instructional+Design+-+Notes
[10:59:03 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jhung: thanks!
[10:59:43 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jameswy: did you put the url to the paper you mentioned at standup there?
[10:59:52 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> jessm: np. btw, the Snowball is still on sale at Dell Canada. Unfortunately it's only the glossy black and the "chrome" versions.
[11:00:20 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jhung: i think we can suffer through glossy black and chrome if the audio is good (smile)
[11:00:32 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> jessm: Nope, it's not there yet. I have yet to update the page with the material I'm reading.
[11:00:54 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jameswy: ah, i'll be excited to catch up with y'all once you post them
[11:37:31 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> greggy : is it still bad to use px for font-sizes instead of % or em? i'm guessing now that browsers resize txt nicely, it's a non-issue?
[11:43:06 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> heidi_: not to use pt you mean? should always try to use relative measures (em, large/small, %), though there maybe times when its not podsible, for cross browser compatibility. In reality though most browser handle resizing of pt sized text.
[11:43:49 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> so.... should use em for old browsers, but pt is fine for new
[11:44:31 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> should try to use em, unless there's no other way but to use pt
[11:44:59 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> greggy i just ask since james's designs are all pt so easiest to just put those numbers in, but i can convert
[11:45:21 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> looks like there's some nice charts out there: http://sureshjain.wordpress.com/2007/07/06/53/
[11:45:40 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> http://sureshjain.wordpress.com/2007/07/06/53/
[11:45:48 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> found the same one
[11:46:32 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> cool thanks !
[12:34:41 CDT(-0500)] <clown> Justin_o: last week, I mentioned that I was going to recommend that the W3C look at using qunit (question) for their unit testing. Do you know an url to reference?
[12:37:25 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> clown: http://docs.jquery.com/Qunit
[12:37:35 CDT(-0500)] <clown> thanks colinclark
[12:38:13 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> It's probably as good as they get in JavaScript, and doesn't have any jQuery dependency. So it makes sense, I think.
[12:40:19 CDT(-0500)] <clown> yeah. in fairness, i'll also point them at doh. There are already numerous test harnesses in the "suggestions" block of the wiki page (ever hear of speclenium? (sp?))
[12:45:17 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Had to Google it
[12:53:59 CDT(-0500)] <clown> me too. and now I'm red-faced, since it appears that it's eeejay who is behind it. he's one of the gnome a11y people that I frequently chat with. sheesh it's a small world.
[13:58:04 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> ping all: does anyone know how we should classify ocad training, orientation etc for Time Assist?
[14:53:48 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> jamon: ping?
