(Floe) UI Options configurations and interactions
Tentatively constrained to websites and webapps
Use in conjunction with (Floe) UI Options configurations and interactions for designing UIO interfaces
Configurations
On web page
- Top panels
- Fat panel: expanding panel of options **
- Skinny panel: persistent panel of options
- Full page options: account preference-like options **
- In-line options: modular options residing inline with either the content or other page interactions
- Drop-down options: contextual options revealed via right-click
- Floating options
- Spotlight-like option search **
- Especially as combined with profile presets/easy access to frequently used options
Special considerations:
- Responsive design
- Expandability to many options, but also quick access to frequently used options
- Profile presets which both: a) sets up good basic defaults, and b) gives quicker access to options likely to be of use
On platform
- In any browser (purely web-based)
- Desktop/laptop
- Mobile
- Smartphones, and other handheld-sized devices
- Tablet
- Browser extension (for Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) *
- Browser wrapper with options (for mobile)
- Out-of-browser widget (e.g., on OS X, item alongside battery, clock etc. to turn on and off UIO, to change preferences quickly and globally for all browsers, etc.)
Interaction considerations
- Input modalities:
- Haptic/tactile
- Keyboard
- Mouse
- Other physical interfaces (via something like MaKey makey)
- Voice
- Visual (?)
- Haptic/tactile
- Semi-intelligence on system's part: detect user behaviour and provide suggestions based on it
- E.g., intercepting Cmd-+ events on browser and suggesting other easier to read options
