Context-aware Activity Notification System)

http://www.cansaware.com/

CANS User Experience prototypes from the University of Missouri

Jim Laffey wrote:
Some of you may be familiar with CANS (cansaware.com). CANS provides notifications of activity within a sakaisite and individual worksites. Currently the implementation is an email digest of what happened over the last 24 hours. We are now testing an Activity Monitor application that enables instructors (and eventually
students) to configure "reporters" to provide specialized email or webpage reports.

Our goal for the winter is to design and implement reporters into the worksite homepage.......so that the member could see what others (instructor and students) are doing as a primary interface to participating in the course.
Two key goals are to make the course experience more social.....(the worksite is a social place not an information space) and to customize the view of a course (a graduate seminar can seem different than an undergrad lecture course, e.g., in the grad seminar names of actors may be used ot say who is doing what.....while in a lecture course.....you may just have tables of how many things were done how often, etc.)

We are working on this and invite comments and suggestions as well as participation and usage.....if it makes sense for your sites.
