A report on a survey on financial products and services ADA compliance survey from the USA highlights the barriers customers face accessing basics. Issues raised are accessibility of branches and terminals, customer service quality, online web accessibility, ATMs. and phone systems.
“ATB’s Four Directions celebrates five years of supporting Edmonton’s underserved” by Angelique Rodrigues / ATB. ATB Financial and Boyle Street Community Services serve the underserved and vulnerable in Edmonton overcome barriers to accessing financial services and products. This initiative has been running for over 7 years.
“Budget 2024: Canada’s Consumer-Driven Banking Framework” by Government of Canada. In the 2024 budget, the Open Banking framework was revealed outlining the features of consumer-driven banking in Canada. This includes information about privacy, liability, security, and accreditation.
“Financial Inclusion and Credit Access Policy Issues“ by Cheryl R. Cooper / Congressional Research Service. Access to basic financial products and services is generally considered foundational for households to manage their financial affairs, improve their financial well-being, and graduate to wealth building activities in the future. This report focuses on three areas: access to bank and other payment accounts, access to the credit reporting system, and access to affordable short-term small-dollar credit.
“Understanding Structural Barriers & Hidden Bias in Access to Credit for Women-Led Businesses“ by Value for Women. This paper highlights barriers facing women-led small enterprises across the developing world, identifies gender and ethnic biases, presents a case study in Guatemala that seeks to test for bias in banking-lending and provides recommendations for policymakers and financial institutions.

“Why Canadians living with Disabilities face Barriers to Financial Security” by Emily Fagan / The Globe and Mail. Stories of Canadians with disabilities and the stress, challenges, and complications they endure in order to make ends meet and pay for disability-related expenses, from medications, to wheelchairs, to treatment. The article also discusses some financial aid programs that can help low-income and disabled Canadians, such as the Registered Disability Saving Plan (RDSP) and BC’s Fair PharmaCare program.
