Mapping scenario (Visitor researcher) - to be developed
Context for scenario:
- Exhibition designers have a "big idea" in mind and desired visitor outcomes when they develop an exhibit. The visitors of a museum - their knowledge, expectations, prior experience with and enthusiasm for an exhibit topic - affect decisions exhibition designers make. The degree to which museums cater to visitor goals and needs influences visitors' interest in exhibitions, and whether they revisit the art gallery.
- Mapping tools allow visitors the ability to personalize and enhance the museum-going experience. Visitor-added information to museum artifacts (e.g. tags, e-postcards, footprints, comments); visitor-drawn relationships among objects; customized itineraries, etc. are a rich source of information about how visitors use the museum. Mapping tools are used as a form of visitor research that helps the museum track audience responses; interactions; contributions to museum content; know what's "popular" with visitors; what's commented on. This could have privacy implications. Data gathered could inform other aspects of the mapping component (e.g.: provide the data for a reccomendation service that says "if you liked this object you also may like this object").
- This scenario should be developed when there is a clearer idea of what mapping tools will be provided to visitor
