fluid-work IRC Logs-2013-03-20
[07:38:09 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: thanks for sending out the e-mail.. i'm looking into the issue again. it's actually breaking in the pre-init function.
[07:38:55 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> https://github.com/jobara/infusion/blob/FLUID-4927-b/src/webapp/components/uiOptions/js/UIOptions.js#L416
[07:54:42 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: so some more oddities. If i comment out the call to that.applier or move it into the final init instead.. it doesn't have the issues with the applier being undefined, however the component still fails to initialize because it appears that the fat panels template is pulled in twice
[07:55:15 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> which causes two elements to be present for the container selector of the subcomponents
[07:58:16 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> it looks like something is causing the final-init function to run twice, so i guess that means UI Options is initializing twice too
[08:00:10 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: i think it has to do with the preInitFunction and finalInitFunction options in the defaults
[08:00:19 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> it looks like now if you specify them there they will be executed twice
[08:00:28 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> i'll see if i can write up a test case for this
[08:14:06 CDT(-0500)] <Bosmon7> Thanks, Justin_o
[08:14:47 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: my first try at a test case didn't reproduce the issue, so there must be some other interaction here.. I'll try to tease it out a bit more
[08:17:48 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: I think i've found it
[08:33:03 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> Bosmon7: filed a jira and provided a test case issues.fluidproject.org/browse/FLUID-4939
[10:01:35 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> so jhung if each panel header is an <h2>, and we have a visually hidden <h1> that would be "UI Options" or "Display Preferences" or something… would it be weird to not have proper labels for the inputs?
[10:02:49 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> groggy how bad is it to have inputs w/o labels?
[10:03:43 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> fyi groggy this is the interface we're discussing - the scrolling panel at the top: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/download/attachments/32014373/uio-02.jpg?version=2&modificationDate=1357257429037
[10:09:40 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> ^greggy you mean heidiv
[10:09:56 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> groggy is greggy before his morning coffee
[10:09:57 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> oh man, auto-correct !
[10:10:07 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> thanks jhung :o
[10:13:13 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> yeah heidiv makes sense to have the panels have headers since we'll likely have labels inside the panels for the inputs.
[10:13:35 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> jhung what would be a label for the text size slider, tho?
[10:14:09 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> Justin_o and I chatted about that heidiv and we figure they'll be hidden and degrade gracefully.
[10:14:46 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> anastasiac: yzen: you two following the thread on gpii architecture about UIO and iFrames and screen readers?
[10:15:47 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> jhung hidden labels… hm
[10:16:14 CDT(-0500)] <yzen> jessm: yep
[10:16:34 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> jhung i guess we'll see how it works with what we have
[10:17:17 CDT(-0500)] <jhung> cool heidiv
[10:17:18 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> yzen: and by following i mean, you'll jump in when appropriate, right?
[10:17:23 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> jessm interested too… would this thread be avail via url?
[10:17:33 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> heidiv: yes
[10:18:42 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> heidiv: http://lists.gpii.net/pipermail/architecture/2013-March/000942.html
[10:18:58 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> thank you!
[10:19:09 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> heidiv: jhung sorry, distracted…
[10:19:47 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> You do have labels, or at least test you could use as labels eg size, contrast emphasis… etc
[10:19:56 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> text
[10:20:21 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> greggy - we were wondering if those make less sense as labels, and more sense has headers?
[10:20:57 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> heidiv: you might chek if a header can be a label
[10:21:12 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> yeah, perhaps both is doable
[10:21:45 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> if not, a fall back, though less desireable, is a title attribute as a label
[10:21:56 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> would it be weird to click on headery-looking text as a label?
[10:22:21 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> maybe, see what the UI folks say
[10:22:25 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> title on?
[10:22:45 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> title attribute on the input element
[10:22:55 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> ah, ok
[10:23:10 CDT(-0500)] <heidiv> thanks greggy
[10:23:14 CDT(-0500)] <greggy> np
[11:05:01 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> yzen: kasper__ I'm half-online
[11:05:05 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> JFYI
[11:05:11 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> haha cool
[11:05:16 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> xDD
[11:05:31 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> I'm on the train to madrid
[11:05:33 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> jhernandez: if you're able to join, there's architecture/android meeting now
[11:06:00 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> kasper__: gotomeeting? or adobeconnect?
[11:06:06 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> gotomeeting
[11:06:11 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> sorry :S
[11:06:15 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> xDD
[11:06:17 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> no prob
[11:08:19 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> jhernandez: will you try and join us
[11:08:34 CDT(-0500)] <kasper__> ?*
[12:19:54 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> colinclark: kasper__ sorry, the internal mic doesn't work
[12:19:59 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez>
[12:20:03 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jhernandez: No worries
[12:20:16 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I was just apologizing to kasper__ if I somehow contributed to making that call antagonistic
[12:20:23 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I was completely surprised by all of this
[12:20:34 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> xDDD
[12:21:56 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> colinclark: exactly about what?
[12:22:00 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> the roadmap?
[12:22:09 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> or the "environment"
[12:22:11 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> ?
[12:22:43 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> well, I think Ignacio gave the good point
[12:24:12 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> it is required a first android "demonstration", but this demo shouldn't block us from using node.js in a mid-term as a long-term solution
[12:24:54 CDT(-0500)] <jhernandez> for android
[12:51:55 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> alexn: can you give me a quick update on VP in OERC?
[13:07:49 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> hi jessm. sorry was talking to cindyli
[13:09:29 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> it is in progress. There are couple of steps which suppose to be done first - 1) upgrade infusion version in VP. 2) upgrade infusion in oerc 3) merge a subtitlesFinder into vp
[13:10:12 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> 1) is almost done. I have a pull request for VP with the latest version of Infusion. Just waiting until all the final commits will go in and then submit my pull request for a review
[13:10:34 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> alexn: and are you working closely with the devs in OERC
[13:10:47 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> 2) Currently doing. I already updated OERC with the latest infusion version and testing it in the browsers
[13:11:05 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> so far no big issues but still lots of testing should be done
[13:11:34 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> jessm: I just started updating infusion version in OERC today so I did not have any interactions with devs in OERC
[13:11:52 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> alexn: who are you working with on this integration – either IDRCers or OERCers?
[13:12:22 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> I assume Justin, Michelle, Cindy
[13:13:03 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> I check everyday with Justin or Michelle if I go the right direction
[13:14:21 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> 3) I was about to submit my pull request on Friday but colinclark mentioned that my component should be similar to the one which is used in gpii so I need to investigate it and most likely to change my component
[13:14:47 CDT(-0500)] <alexn> and of course there is a 4th step which is VP and OERC integration when those which are listed ^ are completed
[13:53:29 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> fluid-everyone: community meeting today is on using Windows 8.
[13:53:35 CDT(-0500)] <Justin_o> would anyone like to join remotely?
