fluid-work IRC Logs-2011-10-21

[10:21:51 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> hi, heidi_, do you have a minute for some questions about mediawiki skins?

[10:22:08 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> anastasiac yep - any luck w the blank page issue?

[10:22:35 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> yes, solved. not sure why the problem was happening, but it's working. The fix was to move all the files out of a folder within htdocs and put them right in htdocs

[10:23:52 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> anastasiac oh strange. i guess path issues in LocalSettings.php ?

[10:24:21 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> I tried setting that, but it wasn't working. I definitely want to go back and figure out why, but for now, I want to get UIO working (smile)

[10:24:37 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> so I'm looking at how skins are implemented in mediawiki in general, heidi_. In the floe skin, I see, for example, that the fss css files are added programmatically, but that there's also a <head> tag that links to some stylesheets as well. Is there a general convention for deciding which way to do this?

[10:27:35 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> anastasiac i think i did all the css-adding in the skin's main .php file. i guess mw adds its own as well? there is also i think a head function one can call, but i think i usually replace that with my own. not sure what the "best" way is. i'm no pro

[10:29:00 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> yes, the css-adding is in the main php file, but you've done it inside a function called setupSkinUserCss(). ok, I'll poke around, heidi_, thanks

[10:30:17 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> anastasiac mediawiki skinning is ... weird. it seems like there is a lot of variation, depending on what you want to do and how... think their documentation is good tho

[10:38:50 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> heidi_, the public handbook currently has a theme with the red border around the TOC, while the theme in the dev branch has the blue background for the TOC. Can I assume that we want to move forward with what's in the dev branch?

[10:39:43 CDT(-0500)] <heidi_> anastasiac yeah i think dev branch is where to keep working. jameswy was playing with colour scheme i think, and there were some other plugins we were trying

[10:39:48 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> the mock-ups on the wiki are closer to what's in the dev branch, I think

[10:39:57 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> k, thanks

[11:56:21 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> fluid-everyone is colin away today? sailboating?

[11:56:38 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, he's been interviewing a potential systems developer

[11:56:41 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> might be getting lunchnow

[11:56:51 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> k

[11:58:59 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jessm, colinclark is here now

[11:59:07 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Hey

[11:59:08 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> I am here

[11:59:21 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> yes, i see

[11:59:26 CDT(-0500)] <jessm> colinclark: any time to catch up?

[11:59:26 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> Apologies for being offline for so long today--I had laptop problems

[11:59:30 CDT(-0500)] <colinclark> jessm: any time, yes

[13:51:31 CDT(-0500)] <cindyli> Bosmon: hi

[13:54:52 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jameswy, I'm sure I asked you earlier this week but I can't find it in the logs: Are these the most current designs for the inclusive learning handbook? http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Inclusive+learning+handbook+mockups

[13:55:36 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> or this, jameswy: http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/User+interface+options+mocked+up+in+Inclusive+Learning+Handbook ?

[13:55:51 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> anastasiac: Yes, but they're not final (or even near final). It's something Lucian or Joanna may be putting some time toward.

[13:56:19 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> (the second one is just Layout Two from the first one, with UIO)

[13:56:44 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jamewy, would you say the general intention of the "show UIO" button is close enough to start with? (I'm working on adding UIO to the handbook now)

[13:59:32 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> jameswy: ^

[14:00:23 CDT(-0500)] <jameswy> From the designs in the second link you mean? Yes.

[14:00:54 CDT(-0500)] <anastasiac> ok, thanks
