Design Meeting - May 19, 2009
Discussed three current areas of focus for FE designers:
1. iPhone application of McCord artifacts collection page
- Goal: Translate the McCord's artifact collection page into an iPhone application
- Developers learning/playing with the iPhone SDK
- Designer's to do list...
- Look into:
- What other museums have done with the iPhone (and other mobile devices); e.g., Dallas Museum of Art, our museum partners, etc.
- Apple's iPhone videos (introducing the UI, SDK, etc.)
- Apple's iPhone Human Interface Guidelines (http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/MobileHIG/index.html)
- Pick Hugues' brain on ideas he has for the iPhone application
- Pick through the McCord artifacts collection page
- Brainstorming a feature set
- Developing user stories
- Developing wireframes, mockups
- Paper prototype testing with users
- A few quick design iterations over the wireframes
- Look into:
- Have something to show by June 22 (for the all-hands meeting)
- Folks involved: Clayton, Tona and James
2. Location unaware mapping
- Spatial vs. conceptual mapping of data
- Location-unaware mapping (vs. location aware mapping)
- Goal: Design and develop a bite-sized location unaware map, possibly involving 2D barcoding; define a use case, small munchable subproject
- To do over the next week...
- Have some more conversations with Antranig
- Define a use case, small munchable subproject
- Plan out the subproject
- Have something to show by June 22 (for the all-hands meeting)
- Folks involved: Antranig, James, Erin, Tona, Muriel
3. Research & planning
- To do...
- Read and absorb material from http://museummobile.info/
- Looking into advisory panel members (http://wiki.fluidproject.org/display/fluid/Fluid+Engage+Team#FluidEngageTeam-Advisory), learn about what they're doing, including:
- Publications, blogs, Twitter feeds, talks/posters/presentations/papers from the Museums & the Web conference
- Divide and conquer the workload
- Plan ongoing, evolving communications with museum partners
- Continuing museum research (interviews, contextual inquiries, etc.)
- Folks involved: everyone
