Questions for physical kiosk design

DIA Gallery Visitors

  • Does the DIA have an inhouse engeneering team that we can work with?
  • What is our budget for the kiosk (ball park figure)?
  • Can you ask the DIA if there are any restrictions or concerns, lessons learned?
  • What is the timeline for completion?
  • How many visitor per day do we expect to use this kiosk? (the assumption is 100-per day)

Accessibility

  • Which accessibility standards are applicable and how will they be followed?
  • Does the kiosk need to have a audio component?
  • Does the kiosk need to have buttons in braille?
  • What kind of assistance will be provided to the assistive technology user beyond any built-in accessibility features or functions of the kiosk?

Placement

  • Where is this kiosk going to be placed?
  • Will the kiosk be placed by the family fitting room and have an attendant? The kiosk will not be attended
  • If the kiosk prints out a brochure where would the printer be placed?

Hardware

  • Do we want to use a multi-touch or single-touch screen? If so what are the implications?
  • What is the longevity of a touch screen?
  • Does the kiosk need to have a audio component like a head set or phone?
  • What type of printer or printers would we need?
  • What are the CPU specifications - Processor Speed, Memory, etc?

Infrastructure

  • Does the kiosk need to connect to the internet?
  • Does the kiosk need to connect to the Museum's network to print? If so what is the transmission speed?
  • How will the kiosk retrieve data does it need to connect to the Museum's network network/internet?
