Benchmarking - Printing Cost Analysis

This page is a cost analysis on printing brochures from the kiosk and provides adequate cost information to evaluate alternative approaches to meeting our current needs.

1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1 Purpose

Describe the purpose of the Cost/Benefit Analysis.

The purpose of this printing cost analysis is to explore kiosk printing solutions and cost estimates that best suit our needs.  Kiosk papers, are mostly provided in rolls and sheets, depends on the models of kiosk printer.

Printing on standard size paper, versus rolled paper as in thermal printing, makes for a more "manageable stack". Standard-size paper easily accommodates Web-ready data printed from public access Internet kiosks, such as "maps" and online ordering information.

1.2 Scope

In order to make predictions on printing costs we have made a number of assumption, they are:

  • approximately 100 visits per day (2-sheets of paper per visitor)
  • we would be printing from a Thermal (digital) printer or Laser printer
  • paper A4- Letter size (210 × 297 mm)
  • ink Colour or Black and White
  • one printer

2.0 Costs

This section will calculate all costs to develop and operate each alternative described in sections 3.3 through 3.x, including both one-time and recurring costs. This may be done in the form of a matrix or by listing out the specific category of costs for each alternative system under the appropriate section headings.

Multiply costs to be incurred in the future by a present value factor, an inflation index that defines future costs in present dollars. This index takes into account items such as vendor and potential salary increases. This calculation brings the cost into present dollars.

2.1 Thermal Printing Model ITK 38

Cost $85.99 per carton (Quantity 6 rolls per carton)

  • Paper Length 164 ft
  • Paper Width 8 1/2 in
  • A4 size: 8.3 in. by 11.7 in.
  • Cost per roll:  $85.99 ÷  6 =  $14.33
  • Paper length  in inch:   164 ft * 12 = 1968 in
  • A4 per roll:  1968 in ÷ 11.7 in ( Lenght of A4) = 168  A4
  • 2 sheets per visit:  168 (A4) ÷ 2 = 84  A4 per visit in each Roll
  • A4 per carton: 168 (A4) * 6 (Roll) = 1008
  • Cost of each A4 per copy in each Roll= $ 14.33 ÷ 168 (A4) = $ 0.085

Cost per day (100 visitor, 2-sheets per visit) -

  • Two sheets per visit:  $0.085 * 2 = $ 0.17 (per visit)
  • Cost per day: $ 0.17 * 100 = $ 17

Cost per week (based on 5-day) -

  • Cost per week: $ 17 * 5 (days) = $ 85

Cosy per year (based on 52-weeks) -

  • Cost per year: $ 85 * 52 (week) = $ 4420

How many cartons we need each year approximately?

We have approximately 1008 sheets of A4 in each carton, so:

  • A4 sheet per visit: 1008 ÷ 2 = 504
  • Each 5 days we need a carton: 504 ÷ 100 = 5 (approximately 1 carton per week)
  • We require 52 carton per year
  • Cost of 52 carton per year: 52 weeks* $ 85.99 = $ 4471.48 (per year)

3.2 HP Color Laserjet CP1510

The following are the estimated costs for your print job with 30% coverage and a quantity of 100.
• Cost per pageis a breakdown of the cost to print this page with the product listed and includes all consumables (including paper, ink/toner, fusers, etc.).
• Total cost of job is the cost of producing the selected quantities.

  • $0.295 per copy

Cost per day (100 visitor, 2-sheets per visit) -

  • per person:  $0.295 * 2 = $ 0.59
  • per day:  $ 0.59 * 100 = $ 59

Cost per week (based on 5-day) -

  • per week:  $ 59 * 5 = $ 295

Cosy per year (based on 52-weeks)-

  • per year:  $ 295 * 52 = $ 15340
