[13:38:55 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> anastasiac: this might be a red herring but...
[13:38:56 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=381048
[13:39:19 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> i attached a test case to that bug... if you want to make sure the bug is 'still resolved
[13:39:21 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> '
[13:41:13 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> anastasiac: http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/accessible/src/base/nsAccessible.cpp#1764
[13:41:21 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> you can see the attempt to name goes like this:
[13:41:35 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> 1. aria labelledby
[13:41:45 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> 2. html label
[13:42:02 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> 3. grab text from subtree
[13:42:06 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> 4. use title attr
[13:42:08 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> .
[13:43:36 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> anastasiac: and gridcell does allow naming from children... http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/accessible/src/base/nsARIAMap.cpp#88
[13:43:43 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> "eNameOkFromChildren"
[14:20:29 EDT(-0400)] <anastasiac> davidb: thanks! I'll have a look into these links
[14:27:55 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> anastasiac: yeah sometimes it helps looking at the source (smile)
[14:28:26 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> but if we continue to have trouble then just imagine the trouble others will have... we have to make sure everything works... file bugs if necessary etc.
[14:31:03 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> colinclark, anastasiac: FYI: some (small) movement on adding ARIA to WebKit/Safari. As of Mar 6, it's been added to Apple's internal bug list (see http://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12132#c6), and yesterday Dave Hyatt (the lead architect) suggested a starting point (http://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12132#c7).
[14:55:11 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> anastasiac, theclown: i was reading an old blog from Victor Tsaran and he mentioned that JAWS will automatically switch off the virtual buffer if an element with an aria role is selected. i didn't realize this.
[14:55:15 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> all ^
[14:55:59 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> davidb: what is the "virtual buffer"? has that got anything to do with "virtual pc cursor"?
[14:56:05 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> virtual buffer mode === virtual pc cursor mode
[14:56:08 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> (smile)
[14:56:21 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> victor is old school
[14:57:07 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> hmmm....then why do I constantly have to insure that the switch is made in the lightbox when a thumnail (role=gridcell) has focus?
[14:57:20 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> perhaps I'm just being too cautious?
[14:57:28 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> theclown: yeah i'm not sure
[14:58:34 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> theclown: apparently users would update the virtual buffer themselves fairly regularly to avoid obsoleteness.
[14:58:41 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> not sure of the keystroke though
[14:59:03 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> can you say time to refactor screen readers?
[14:59:21 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> okay: "time to refactor screen readers".
[14:59:25 EDT(-0400)] <theclown> (smile)
[15:00:28 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> (tongue)
[15:00:44 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> btw i rediscovered this blog... worth a read sometime perhaps: http://juicystudio.com/article/improving-ajax-applications-for-jaws-users.php
[15:34:30 EDT(-0400)] <davidb> oh man!

[16:03:35 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> RayDavis: Just winding up some work. Do you want to call me in 10 minutes?
[16:03:44 EDT(-0400)] <RayDavis> Sounds fine.
[16:05:42 EDT(-0400)] <RayDavis> Except that I don't have your phone number.

[16:19:39 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> better late than never (tongue)
[16:21:23 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> michelled: How's it going?
[16:21:39 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> RayDavis: Thanks again for the phone call. You're so wicked an reasonable. (wink)
[16:21:55 EDT(-0400)] <RayDavis> Bwa ha ha ha!
[16:22:16 EDT(-0400)] * RayDavis laughs reasonably wickedly.
[16:22:20 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> LOL
[16:22:20 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> good thanks. Choice quote from the chiropractor: "sitting at the computer is just not a human thing to do"
[16:22:28 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> michelled: no kidding!
[16:23:08 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> michelled: Hey, do you know if there is a forum or blog or anything for the Toronto AJAX group where we could post our new "Web User Interface Developer" position?
[16:23:10 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> It's up!
[16:23:41 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> There's a facebook group. I don't know if they have anything else
[16:23:54 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> Do you think it would be appropriate to post something there?
[16:23:58 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> Are you member of the group?
[16:24:15 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> I will have to join if I can. When's the next meeting?
[16:25:02 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> michelled: Do you think it's worth also posting on the XP Toronto mailing list?
[16:25:40 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> It won't hurt to post on the XP list. There are a lot of people that don't really come to meetings.
[16:27:49 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> after looking it seems that the facebook group is actually TorCamp: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2229311714
[16:27:57 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> I don't see any job postings there.
[16:31:56 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> Canadian web developers has a job board, I think that would be more appropriate. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2260840869
