Co-design Session III planning - March 14, 2019
Recap of what we did last year in our first 2 co-design sessions
Result of all 3 sessions will be the design brief
Working with indigenous community is one idea - not committed to yet
We’re thinking to do embedded co-design
Embedded co-design:
Identify communities/groups we want to work with
Reach out to those communities to find participants
“Train” facilitators from those communities
Folks who are trusted members of the community
Sometimes we participate and sometimes we don’t
It’s good to be there to have some influence over the process, but this also changes the dynamic of the session
How to have continuity from last sessions?
Were there participants in last sessions who would be willing to facilitate?
Continuity is important at this point since we are trying to “wrap up” and create something concrete
There are a few participants from last sessions who we could approach to lead indigenous co-design sessions
We had talked about doing virtual session
The co-design sessions are more about the structure and function, rather than content? Yes
It would be good to clarify this going into the next session to have a starting point
We did do one virtual session on the cities project - it was really challenging
This could help with continuity from previous sessions
Only one person brought something
On cities project, teachers were assigning prep work to students, so they did it :)
If we do something virtual, perhaps it wouldn’t need to be “live”
Give folks time to complete the activities over a period of time
What if we combined a live session with giving folks some time to do some preparatory work?
In past we asked folks to bring details about a project they are working on
Will people realistically engage in prep work?
Storytelling process at Re.Vision
E.g. a page of context, a journal article, come with a story if you want
Prepwork that is fun! E.g. the All About Me bag - easy to do
Give people a framework to prep something if they want to, but not mandatory
Could we create something brief that would provide the continuity we want?
The tactility of this is interesting in context of digital platform
Collect screenshots of digital platforms, sites that they like, that were useful to them
Are questions a good way to frame this?
We need to review what we did at last 2 sessions
We talked about bringing sketches to this last session, based on what we did before
The challenge is in bringing these to an entirely new group of people
Have some returning folks and some new folks?
Last session was a year ago - have participants been involved? Not in constant contact
A guided session - lots of room for dynamic engagement
Still have continuity with previous participants
Recruitment in past through Project Re.Vision
Pedagogy and teachers, diversity of embodied experience, those who may not normally come across pedagogy around embodied experience
BiT members will collaborate on recruitment
Dates? Maybe a bit too soon
Do some sketching first and then talk about dates
Some idea?
April/May are busy
End of April - not great for IDRC
Aiming for something similar to what we did in past (not embedded co-design)
Next steps - IDRC to do some sketching and rough outline of what the session might look like
Then determine a specific date
At least 3 weeks in advance would be useful
All of us to review outcome of previous sessions
Meet again first week of April - April 4 same time (1pm ET)
IDRC to check to see if anything is missing from wiki page and add
BiT is mocking up a pedagogical tool - a teaching module
