[12:28:22 EDT(-0400)] * JASIGLogBot (i=jasigch@jasigch.Princeton.EDU) has joined #fluid-work
[12:28:22 EDT(-0400)] * Topic is 'features inside of features inside of dream inside a fragment of specification that I read once' set by colinclark on 2008-08-28 18:09:37 EDT(-0400)
[12:28:32 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> Logbot!
[12:28:35 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> We've missed you!
[12:29:56 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> In the case of Progress, what we need to do for Uploader is a bit specialized 'cause we're sneaking the progress bars in behind the Uploader UI in order to get a very specific effect. It's a hack, in a way. (What on the web isn't.) I'm not sure that we want to contribute a hack back.
[12:30:56 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> The changes that I'm wrapping around scrollTo are definitely something that the author might want to add, since it is primarily just adding the ability to wrap an element in DOM that would allow scrolling if it doesn't already have it
[12:38:09 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> ecochran: I'd look at the functionality, not the implementation. If jQuery UI's progress bar won't yet allow us to overlay a custom label on top of the progress bar, then we probably can't use it.
[12:38:28 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> However, if that's possible, the particular way they achieve the effect may not be germane.
[12:38:43 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> Certainly worth taking a look at their code and getting a feel for it.
[12:38:54 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> That said, I need a progress bar fast. (wink)
[12:39:23 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> I'll look at it again. I thought that it would be tricky to put the progress bar behind the table the way we are...
[12:39:29 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> like I said, hacky
[12:39:43 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> I guess we should find out.
[12:39:49 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> You will have something to work with today
[12:40:04 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> I have most of it done
[12:40:05 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> colinclark, ecochran: note that jquery ui doesn't mention their progress bar in their docs. It's possible it's a trunk thing. I didn't look at the last release bundle.
[12:40:34 EDT(-0400)] * colinclark wonders if it's pretty young still...
[12:40:37 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> I was looking at one that was not jQuery UI, at that time it was just a plugin
[12:40:47 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> the plugin has been around for a while
[12:41:06 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> I think that there are a lot of things that are sneaking into jQuery UI from the plugin library
[12:41:24 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> since most of the jQuery UI developers came from the plugin community
[12:41:25 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> Yep, the typical path for a UI widget is promote a plugin into their architecture.
[12:42:13 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> ecochran: Do you have an updated version of Progress that fixes the args issue you mentioned earlier? I updated but didn't see any changes.
[12:43:31 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> colinclark: it's likely because I've been distracting him all morning (tongue)
[12:43:41 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> no, not yet. that's next on the list, but if you use it with the two args, it will work fine
[12:44:05 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> michelled is sooo distracting!
[12:44:12 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> but in such a good way!
[12:44:18 EDT(-0400)] <michelled> (smile)
[12:45:46 EDT(-0400)] * Topic is 'Bosmon is now buying Colin scotch, thanks to Justin's amazing detective work!' set by colinclark on 2008-09-11 12:45:46 EDT(-0400)
[12:46:23 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> ecochran: Usually I'm the one distracting michelled.
[12:46:24 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> Ah, looks like we'll have a scotch BOF at the Fluid Summit
[12:46:53 EDT(-0400)] * Topic is 'FLUID-1547 === scotch' set by colinclark on 2008-09-11 12:46:53 EDT(-0400)
[12:47:11 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> colinclark: not by me?!?
[12:47:21 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> well...
[12:47:31 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> I enjoy being distracted.
[12:47:36 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> OK, we all distract each other
[12:47:47 EDT(-0400)] <ecochran> this was a rare treat to be distracted by michelled
[12:48:00 EDT(-0400)] <colinclark> michelled is so serious about avoiding distractions.
[12:48:05 EDT(-0400)] * colinclark doesn't get it.
[12:48:29 EDT(-0400)] * ecochran doesn't either
[12:58:33 EDT(-0400)] * lessthanzero (n=lessthan@cmr-208-97-79-45.cr.net.cable.rogers.com) has joined #fluid-work

[13:00:32 EDT(-0400)] <jessm> wait, i was distracted so I missed the discussion on distractions... (wink)

[14:08:22 EDT(-0400)] <jonathan_h> I didn't want to step on your shoes, so I'll tackle some other independent tasks on the site.
[14:37:04 EDT(-0400)] <jonathan_h> lessthanzero: I'm thinking of turning off email verification for accounts. They generally don't stop determined spammers and it's just about hoop for a new user to jump through. What do you think?
[14:37:25 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> we can change the registration
[14:37:33 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> so it lets new users to set password
[14:37:35 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> because currently.
[14:37:39 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> they need to check email
[14:37:41 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> to get password.
[14:37:43 EDT(-0400)] <jonathan_h> Yeah.
[14:37:46 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> so if we want to take out verification.
[14:37:49 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> there is a module called.
[14:37:54 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> toboggan or something like that.
[14:38:05 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> its pretty standard, gives these types of options.
[14:38:06 EDT(-0400)] <jonathan_h> I'm looking at the screen that manages that now and it offers a password change upon registering.
[14:38:13 EDT(-0400)] <lessthanzero> also, like... after login, where it redirects etc.
